WINEMAKER'S NOTES

The 2007 Syrah marks our second vintage of Syrah production at Chalk Hill Estate, and already we are developing a special love for this grape. Our Syrah is grown on two south-facing hillsides with rocky, volcanic soils. We harvest in several passes, picking only clusters that have reached full maturity and leaving others to harvest at a later date. A site-specific gaminess coincides with distinct, concentrated boysenberry aromas that are echoed and amplified in the wine’s broad palate. Lush, decadent flavors are laced with cigar-box spices, velvety tannins and supple purple fruit.
