| Winemaker Notes: | Mature vines on the coolest site at Chalk Hill Estate yield the flavor-laden fruit for our North Slope Pinot gris. Harvested and processed using extreme care, this full, dry white wine is distinct from all others in its class. Five different Pinot gris clones are planted on the Estate—each providing its own fruit and textural component to the final blend. The 2008 North Slope Pinot gris was barrel fermented and aged sur-lie in neutral French oak barrels with weekly bâtonnage. After nine months in barrel, the wine was blended and bottled without fining or filtration. The aromas flow seamlessly into flavors—honey, baked red delicious apple, sweet hay, bosc pear, earth and a hint of clove. The mouthfeel is ripe, weighty and textured throughout, with a sur-lie creaminess and vineyard-driven minerality. |
