< Press ReleasesChalk Hill Estate To Offer Unique Barrel Tasting Opportunity To Visitors In MarchHealdsburg, CAJanuary 30, 2007. In conjunction with the Sonoma County Vintners Association's "Barrel Tasting Month," which is set to run during March, visitors to Chalk Hill Estate during the month can expect a little something extra during their tour of the estate.During March, the Chalk Hill Estate Tour, which normally includes a tasting of the Chalk Hill Estate current release wines as well as a tour of the property, will also offer a tasting of red wines out of the barrel, in the estate's new Red Wine Barrel Cellar - a state of the art winemaking facility, which has never before been open to the public. Under the direction of winemaker Steve Leveque, the building includes four unique, temperature-controlled zones that house the various vintages and lots that are in different phases of cellaring - warmer to encourage malolactic fermentation, and cooler for long-term aging. The addition to the tour will be included in the standard $15 Estate Tour price. The tours are offered Monday through Friday at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m., as well as at 1 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday. To book a tour, or for more information, visitors should call 800-838-4306 or visit www.chalkhill.com. Chalk Hill Estate Vineyards and Winery was founded by Fred Furth in 1972 as an integrated wine estate similar to those he admired in Europe. Today this contiguous 1,340-acre estate in the Chalk Hill appellation of Sonoma County, created by Fred and his wife Peggy, includes 350 acres of vineyards, a winery, a hospitality center and culinary garden, residence, offices, stables, equestrian pavilion, sports fields, fishing and swimming ponds, guest houses and wilderness areas. The winery hand-crafts Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, as well as Furth, a Bordeaux varietal proprietary blend.
