| Tasting Notes: | This is a big, rich, ripe, luscious red with provocative aromas of black cherries, currants, cloves and freshly roasted coffee beans. The palate is thick with chocolate, blueberries and espresso. The small addition of Malbec brought additional color and softness to the wine. |
| Vineyard Notes: | An unusually dry winter and early spring were followed by a severe frost in April, and then by a May heat spell during bloom. These extreme weather conditions caused a lower-than-normal crop level. The summer was dry and relatively warm until a burst of heat in early September. We waited until late October, after the fruit had reached full physiological ripeness, to begin harvest. |
| Production Notes: | This fruit for this Cabernet Sauvignon/Malbec blend comes entirely from our new Estate West vineyard located just across Chalk Hill Road. It is a spectacular site that features 56 acres of vines planted between 2003 and 2008. After hand harvest, cold soaking and fermentation, the wine was aged for 22 months in French oak barrels (50% new) prior to bottling. |
